The streets at night are different, when the world is asleep the weight of the day finally lifts. I enjoy the silence. And as I walk I look for lights. A small point of warmth in the dark.
.
As a child I used to look through the rear window of the car. Staring at distant lights in the landscape, on the edge of falling asleep, my mouth left wet marks on the glass. I imagined the different lives of which those lights were a small token of existence. What were those lives like? Were they just as complicated as mine?
On those nightly walks I asked myself, what was that person doing in there? What kind of problems did they have, what kind of life? I didn't need to see anyone or speak to anyone. But I could invent whole stories, and that brought peace to my mind.
Everyone has sleepless nights sometimes. These photographs are proof of the lights I found, and of the reassuring thought that I was not the only one lying awake. These photos were my nightlights.
